Today's Franklin's World comic in Coins Weekly reminded me of this thread!

Seems like this one is also a barbarian imitation of Tetricus I. As it's my only barbarous I'll share it here. Any idea what the C C might mean, if anything? Supposedly it's an imitation of the "PAX AVG" variant.

I suspect the CC is a failed attempt at engraving VG, mirrored

I agree. Indeed, AVGG is often engraved AVCC on those imitations and a mirror legend can happen. Although there aren't any PAX AVGG for the Tetrici, mixing a reverse type with another reverse legend is quite common.

A fun posting. I'm no longer a collector of this period as I switched from Roman coinage to "Byzantine" numismatics, a different bite of the same apple. I have always kept my eye out for barbarous pieces.

The first is a Barbarous Byz, the second a Barbarous uncia. The first is a large follis of Anastasius I late 5th c.AD, the second is a Roman Republic though only the coin gods know when either were produced. The Republic piece weighs in at a massive
1.44gm., and 12mm diameter. Fun pieces to have in my collection. I love "junk" boxes.

A very fun thread and I learned a lot. Thanks to all.
