Important tip for you that took me a bit to realize - get yourself a mini level...make sure that the camera matches the surface that the coin is sitting on, both vertically and horizontally. Might help!
Yeah - that is the depth of field problem and it can be largely solved with greater light. With low light, the lens opens up and the shutter speed slows, causing a tightening of depth of field. As a result, the camera actually focuses on one side of the coin and the other side of the coin can be slightly out of focus. With the point and click there was no such problem as I moved so close to the coin that I was only about 10mm from coin.
Here's mine. The blue one is S.O.B. Pronounced Sob, but it's an acronym for a reason. The green one is Jade. She's a nice one.
Note that the surface defects don't mean you want them less. If you put it in tupperware, it should heal.
