Well I think it's time I reveal the grade....... And it is........ MS-64!!! in an old NGC slab! I was just curious to see some opinions on this coins grade because I am thinking about maybe crossing it over to PCGS if there's a chance it might go up a grade. I know that rarely happens but it MIGHT be a possibility?? This was fun, I may do another one of these soon! Thanks to everyone who participated and checked out my coin! Any further opinions on if it is worth crossing over are welcome as well! ✌️
I'd leave her in the old fatty holder. Your best bet would be to send it to CAC when they reopen for regular submissions. I think it has a decent chance of getting a gold CAC. It's very attractive and has the look I like.
It looks nice for a 64 (I was being super conservative with my 63 guess). Is there a chance for a 65? There might be if the coin has no hidden hits on the fields and great luster. You do have to consider the values; currently 64s are selling in the 700-850 range while 65s are bringing 900-1,100 (with a few going higher). An older holder 64 might very well be within 100-150 of a newer holder 65. And grading for just one coin will cost you $50+ (grading fee plus shipping and insurance). If you have several coins to send in and are fairly confident in this one, it might be worth the risk to satisfy your curiosity (I've done it before). Also your decision could come down to your plans with the coin (keeping for a collection vs selling soon).
Now that I have gotten some good insight on this I think I will wait until I can submit it to CAC and leave it in the fatty holder! I think it could possibly go up a grade but don't wont to loose the fatty holder if it stays MS-64... Thanks!
I like fatty holders too. I sometimes wonder, though, if the time comes to reholder these coins to stop any further darkening of the toning. This coin might be an example. Thoughts?
