Do the letters on the reverse on top of the bull have any significance? I see A like mine, T, S, and some other letters.

Carthago Does this look infected to you?

They're called control marks and were likely used by the mint for some type of production organization purpose. Some RR issues with control marks use a unique one for each die perhaps as a way of tracking the die inventory, some use the same one across many dies perhaps as a way to mark a certain lot of bullion that was used. There are several theories.

It's still a great coin. And now you have a great story to go with it! I don't collect RR but I can see the appeal!

    Hello All:

In the future, please email me right away. Mistakes happen and as long as you did not outbid someone else by placing your bid I won't have a problem.

This sale was one of the hosted sales at our platform. All of the cataloguing, shipping, etc is handled by Spartan.

If the coin you were interested in is still available I can gladly see if they are willing to let you have it at open.

It's ok. I already paid for the Balbus and frankly I've done some rethining since yesterday and the displeasure has more or less worn off. I think I'll give it a chance. I've had coins that I bought before that I wasn't sure about, and once I held them in hand I fell in love with them. I think it's the least I could do.

PS: Just to illustrate my different mood this morning, check out my new avatar!
