So I was browsing the web about coin stuff, and stumbled across coinnetwork.com. Their forum is fairly miserable, but this one thread got my attention. Thought you guys may enjoy it. Might get a laugh or two. Some terrible advice about cleaning coins from god knows who: http://www.coinnetwork.com/forum/topics/need-advice-about-cleaning-old-copper-coins
That is just sad, we should do them a favor and lend them Doug for a few days to straighten them out. A thread like that would be ripped apart in minutes over here. My favorite is "A pencil eraser is the best way to clean any coin".
I kind of enjoyed the idea of using Hydroflouric acid. That stuff will etch glass and kill the OP quickly.
bought a rock tumbler from my coin club auction...works great on those nasty zincoln anyone who does any roll searching. gets some real horrible ones. i mean some i cant tell head from tails
My favorite quote is the one that says, "What the ---- is wrong with you?" It reminds me of something my Dad would say to us kids if we did something REALLY stupid. Very lovingly ofcoarse and without the heck part.
And he says it's the "natural way" to clean a coin. Shenanigans. I did notice that many of the posters are Indian. Maybe there's different norms in coin collecting over there. But still. Many of those methods listed are pretty damaging and/or abrasive.
Not to say names but there were members here giving out similar advice on cleaning coins. Some of them were worse than the eraser but not as bad as the hydrofluoric acid. I think I saw some bad advice on ehow too.
