    Thanks for the input!
    Much appreciated.
Sorry to have wasted your time on my PMD.
I'll be more careful of what I post in the future.

It's never a waste of time for anyone to help you out, thanks for being receptive and open to feedback. Some people are convinced they have struck gold...

Did you ever try the toothpick? That was not a joke. BTW, my guess is they did not pop. I am not sure just what you have, but I doubt it is zinc rot. Maybe @mikediamond has an idea.

Taking a totally wild swag, I wonder if Barack has any relatives working in the mint.

I did try the toothpick and your right they didn't pop or move. They are solid.
What looks to me like letters are raised high just like the date and mint Mark. Except these are tiny. They have no appearance of having been "punched in" so it really had me fooled.
Maybe for kicks I'll take it to an expert someday to see what they say. My magnification isn't the greatest and I'd love to see what it looks like up close.
At any rate this has been fun and educational!
That's why I hang out here... To learn. (Besides it gives me a break from looking at coins all day everyday)... And no I don't have a life. Lol

    Thank you all!

The best expert you will ever run into is Mike Diamond. He writes the articles for Coin World. Hopefully he will see my alert and comment here.

And, BTW, your magnification is among the best I have seen.
