OK, done deal. Think it was just someone who bought it and decided to get rid of it. Here it is (out of focus but...eh) coin is 3.11 g alone and 5.25 in the capsule.
I was going to make a snarky comment about it being 3/5 of a $10 1/4-ounce AGE, but it's actually 2/5. And then there's the 1/2-ounce First Spouse gold, also carrying a $10 face value...
If that is really what you got for a discounted 1/10 ounce gold coin price, you got the steal of the week. I just hope the person who sold it
The mint had the sense to assign a face value to American Eagle Gold Coins. That makes them "coins" and not "gold rounds" which gives you a sales tax advantage in many states.
Yup, that's my understanding of it. Does the Mint strike any precious metal pieces that do not bear a denomination?
They have in the past. Way back when they issued a Benjamin Franklin firefighters piece. You will have to pay sales tax on that in most states unless your buy $500 worth of them, at least in Massachusetts. The mint has also reproduced some presidential medals on ASE planchets that had not stated face value. I vaguely remember a space set from years ago that looked like a three piece clad, silver and gold set that should have been issued as a half dollar, silver dollar and $5 gold, but wasn't.
I make offers on these 1/10 oz. fine Gold daily, and have never acquired a coin for <$265 before tax/shipping!
You are correct, but here is a better buy that I should receive in 2 days (i.e. 7/1/23): https://www.ebay.com/itm/1259816964...=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 JMHO
