True, and so can another sniper. And since he only gets one bid, it is hard to tell which it is. Nothing can protect you from a shill that places a big max bid early, or from another deep pocket sniper. But it is still the most likely bidding strategy to win auctions at no more than you absolutely have to pay.
The coin ended up going for a lot less than I offered originally. I did try to put a bid in within the last minute but was in an area with bad service on my phone and I guess the bid never registered. Oh well.
