I look at that this way on my behalf. I have the same thoughts as you about the 2 x 2's but I have made some changes in 16 years. We all have different taste and perception of what looks good. You're doing the right thing by getting various opinions on this subject. At least I know as a collector and have started getting actively involved in collecting again. What work once before for me does not work now. I will show you what I have come up with. And have got great reviews from friends that I have over that have seen what I am doing as far as my collection at displaying them. I personally have got into the clear 2 x 2 non-PVC flaps. On the top of that flap I've started putting the coins designation an error if they have one. Made out on the computer on a white sticker which can be easily removed if necessary. And if that coin has an error I have started to provide a photo of that error so you do not have to break out your magnifying glass or your Leopold to actually see the error. Which my friends have got a big kick out of that little add on and makes it easier for them to understand what they are looking at. And as you can see by the folder it gives the coin fairly good protection and easy access to you to add on. And even inside the 2 x 2 clear flap if I particularly want to ensure that coins safety I put it in an airtight holder within the 2 x 2 flap. Double the protection. I personally have been starting to assemble a homestead DDR collection which I am adding on to almost every other day. My set up has ease of adding to the collection and also viewing my collection. But to each their own and we must all go our own ways. What may work for me may not be suitable to you. But Another member may have exactly what you're looking for and you also may like. So here's some photos of what I like doing with my coins.
