Here's my only ANACS submission. I was sure the 1916 Mercury dime had a D mintmark. I still think they got it wrong. More coming after this next submission. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
One was a California fractional, which didn't have the bear on the back, so I thought I would try. The other was a $1. I think it was a Type 3. It was part of several counterfeits I had inherited. Real gold, but counterfeit. The fractional was not real gold though. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
I sent in my 10 coins last week for submission. Most collectors would scoff at what I sent in since most were cleaned, but they are nice coins that I want authenticated just in case I need to sell them. For example, I can sell a cleaned AU Trade dollar that is stabbed a lot easier than raw just because it's verified real. Here's my submission with my guesstimate grade. 1864 2 cent AU 1861 3 cent silver XF cleaned 1883 V Nickel MS64 1875 20 Cent XF cleaned 1837 Bust Quarter VG cleaned 1854 Seated Quarter XF-AU cleaned 1917 SLQ T1 VF-XF possibly cleaned 1858-O Seated Half VF-XF 1872 Seated Dollar AU cleaned 1878-S Trade Dollar AU cleaned Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
Yes. Can't beat that for $99. I wouldn't have paid regular price to get these graded but I couldn't pass this deal up to get them in plastic. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
I did the same thing. Plus I enjoy testing my grading (or lack of) grading stills. I'm just wondering if this special might cause them any kind of back up with costumer orders.
Mine says it will ship 9/19. A little over a month after receiving. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
Speaking of grading is it worth resubmitting mid to mid/high grade old style NGC and PCGS slabs for regrading? I'd send the Old PCGS slabs in to NGC too since they seem to be a bit more lenient in their grading (or so the rumor goes). Some are the old green NGC paper slabs, perforated paper PCGS slabs, regular lime green PCGS slabs, brown NGC soap bar style slabs, etc.. All MS65-67 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Can't be answered as a generalization. Yes, one can find undergraded coins in them, but people have been looking for those for quite a while and the pickings are beginning to slim. That said, long-held unknown examples are still hitting the market. Another consideration is the TPG's have been tightening up a lot over the last few years (since the advent of CAC), and what upgraded five years ago probably won't today. First thing to do - assuming you didn't slab the coin originally and have held it since - is look to see if that slab appears in a previous auction. If it has, especially more than once, it would be reasonable to assume that somebody has looked at it with an eye to resubmit and chose not to.
Some of them belonged to my father so they haven't been owned by anyone else since the mid to early 90's. The others I'll have to do some research on.
How do I see if they were sold in auction prior? By certification number? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If you're not selling, it doesn't matter at all. Even if you are, some of those holders could carry small premiums by themselves. If anything, I'd try CAC rather than resubmitting.
These are the specimens. The Mercuries are the ones I'd need to research. All others except the toned MS67 Morgan have been in the family since the 1990's. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Some of those morgans might upgrade but if they were mine I'd CAC them and go for the gold on one or two instead of cracking them as even the 90s ogh are becoming collectable. I can submit them to CAC for you. Pm me if interested. I'm planning on a submission in a few weeks
Personally I see CAC as a sticker scam. I don't see the big deal about a green sticker. Isn't a number up better than a green sticker?
