Against my better judgement, I'm going to post on this topic one more time. First: I'm posting here, as myself -- not as the coin shop for which I work. This is just me, and always has been. I do not now and never have listed anything for sale on my blog. There's a company site for that. What I do post about is Coin Porn, what goes down at coin shows, and the occasional bit of coin nerd news. I had intended to start my own version of "coin of the day" (or more likely "coin of the every other day/week/whenever I get around to it"), to get more Coin Porn in our lives. A LOT of people have a 'Coin of the day' type thing they do, and I thought I might do it as well. You know, because it's fun. As with the other Coin Porn I've posted, not all of it is the shop's. It's just cool stuff, regardless of where it comes from. I go to a lot of shows, I visit other shops, I see cool things, I share. That's all. That's what Coin Porn is supposed to be: cool coins for the sake of cool coins. I still stand by my earlier comments on why I post links from one page instead of posting individual pics in the dozen different places they have to go. It's just easier. Ironically, I feel as if this entire thing would have been avoided if I had a paragraph of text that included something about "This is my inaugural post of the Whenever I Feel Like It Coin Porn" (a sentiment echoed at the top of the linked page), but I got slammed at work and just dropped the link with what I thought was a cutsey one-liner. I've learned my lesson: No one likes bad one-liners.
No worries, most of the collectors looked at the coin and didn't say anything negative at all. Unfortunately, once in awhile the naysayers pop up just to pop off, ignore it and carry on, life's to short.
Josh and bkozak33 have become the new Thelma and Louise. Go drive off a cliff. We love you Amanda !!!!!!!!!
That's not the point. It does not matter if you have a coin for sale on your site or not. The point is that by posting a link you are advertising your site which is self promotion. You're promoting the website that you made by making people click on that link to see your pictures instead of providing a nice write up and pictures here. I don't know why I'm receiving such negativity from everyone on the issue. It is rule breaking. When did we stop being serious about enforcing the rules? I remember when I first came on CoinTalk and I had a thread similiar to this one and @GDJMSP was on my case about 2 minutes later notifying me that my post has been deleted because it violates the rules and then he provided me with the link to the rules and suggest that I read them and so I did. I love CoinTalk I love the Community I love the Content and I definitely love all of the coins that everyone is sharing through threads, albums, and the showcase. I think that CoinTalk is the best coin Forum on the internet today and I also think that we should do our best to keep it that way and part of that is a continued enforcement and obeying the rules. If we as a community decide we don't want to follow a rule such as self promotion then the mods will not ban all of us. However if we were to do such a thing the CoinTalk we all know and love would be terminated. We all have an obligation to preserve CoinTalk for what it is. That is all I have left to say on the matter. Thank you, Josh
We hope that's true Josh, thank you. btw bkozak33, under your signature Ebay promotions you have "GoldenShowersWisconsin", what is that?
Amanda's blog is more personal then sales. I think too much is being made of this issue. And I really don't understand how it is not self promotion to be allowed to have your coin store link under your posts. Even if you are allowed to post that way it is still self promotion.
You go fishing for the evening and look what you miss....much to do about nothing. Why are we all so easily offended these days? If you don't like the term Coinporn, ignore it! Yikes. If you don't want to click a link in someone's post, DON'T! Nice coin Amanda. While I don't think her intention for posting links to beautiful coins is self promotion, there is some marketing/advertising for the shop she works at...BIG FRICKING DEAL!
Honestly Amanda I love the idea of the weekly coin porn please feel free to continue to post as much as possible that's one thing many of us here can't get enough of!! I do my part but only can buy so much!
Rofl!! I've been waiting for someone else to pick up on that!! I've always known their a little different in Wisconsin especially after partying with a bus load of cheeseheads in town for a Green Bay game but the golden shower part always seemed odd
Pretty coin. I'll bet it looks even better in hand. Thanks for sharing. I have just one thing to say about all the negative replys.
What? When I first opened my store I sold Gold scrap. I figured you can come to my store for a golden shower.
Ya know, after reading through this whole thread I gotta say I was just about floored by some of the comments. Dunno why though, after participating in coin forums for so many years there shouldn't be much that surprises me anymore. But I will make 1 additional comment. The mods, and only the mods, decide what breaks the rules and what doesn't.
LOL. Amanda's antagonists are giving her more publicity than she could ever get from "self-promotion." Just spell her name right.
I think it is ironic you are offended by the term "coin porn", but use the disgusting name Wisconsin golden shower for your ebay page. You really might want to consider looking that up, and changing it. I guarantee you that is hurting your business. When I saw your name, I thought you were some pervert, and I would not consider buying anything from a store with that name.
