Struck-through? 2001 D nickel

Hey all, what do you think this is? Could be damage, but wanted to make sure so I could get it off my coin desk.

I have a similar thing on a war nickel, I just keep forgetting to post. Ill wait to see what they say about yours

 

Looks like damage on the edge it was in a knife fight but it could be a lamination,folded over rim e.t.c.

 

Take a look at the scrape lines going from the outside of the rim inward. That is plain and simple damage.

 

Maybe someone tried shaving off metal since war nickels are part silver

 

What happened here? Planchet error...pmd? Need help...!

Appears to be PMD to me. The entire coin has seen some time at war in the human population.

The puffy, indistinct letters and numbers are the result of die deterioration.
