Interesting.... thanks. If the entire anomaly itself is indeed raised, I don't see how it could be a strike through, but from its appearance I can't see the likelihood of a crack being very high. Perhaps some sort of die gouge?
Thanks, I have been doing a lot of research on seated quarter die pairing so I haven't been around too much
Geeze Ken, after 3 ipa's , one ambien, and four pint glasses of 2% milk, & candy on the side. Looks like an alien emergining from the Zero of the date. Could you post the obverse of coin so I can attempted to make a more informed opinion ,,, LOL @green18
It is a die chip. Shows well in the two of the date. Look, height, colorization all look the same. Size and shape vary but die chips will do that. Ya know what I mean?
While there is a raised component to it, the pictures make it look to my eyes like there is also a lowered component to it (something may have pushed the metal). In hand it may look different, but it looks like PMD to me from these pictures.
@green18 I do not remember this at all and still can not give an informed opinion. Odd that the zero of date covers the raised area. Yeah would think if a chip it would of effected the 0 more and it would still not be "clear" as this runs through it. I will say, if only a touch longer and hit that rim, @tommyc03 I would be calling cud, . Being raised and all. But of course I am wrong more then right.
I can not see that being PMD. It's raised according to Ken. Other chatter coming off the left of the two, left of the zero, and left of the five. @Fred Weinberg
Here are some more closeups of the area in question. This time, I tipped the edge (top) with some card stock and moved the lights around after each shot.
