Hmm. This broad seemed a little flat and dry for my taste. Kinda reminded me of a board. Haha

While not from straps, I picked these up today. Nothing fancy but this is the first $5 I have found like this.

I haven't really been strap searching in a while, but I looked through a couple hundred singles today just for the heck of it.

    Not bad finds:

    $1's
    1977A L-I
    1988A A-G
    1995 L-N & D-K
    2003 G-*

I picked up these guys from my teller:
    $20 1981A D-A
    $5 1995 L-B

Not a bad day at all.

I, mostly, collect coins but pick up notes sometimes. This was the first $5 United States Note I have found at a bank. Today they are all Federal Reserve Notes. Others will have more knowledge on why the names of the notes have changed over the years.

Got two $100 straps of $1's from my bank yesterday. They turned up nothing, except a Series 1977 B-A, note.

Then, after buying a coffee at Dunkin' Donuts, I got another series 1977 $1, A-B, in change.

I found it odd that I got two series 1977 $1's in the same day, within an hour of each other.
So, later in the day, I was talking to my mom, and asked her if 1977 was a particularly significant year for her, and she said yes, that was the year I met your father.

So, I decided to use one of the notes to make a nice gift for her. I found a picture of my dad (who passed away in 2003) and framed it with the A-B note, and gave it to her. I chose the Boston note, because, obviously, my family is from Boston. Needless to say, this made her really happy.

Of all the finds I've had while searching, those '77 notes, especially the Boston one, were by far the best.

    :D

Went through some $2's today, and found nothing interesting, except, maybe this bad boy, that's obviously seen better days:

My feelings on this one are mixed. On the one hand, it's a star, and I always enjoy finding stars. On the other hand, well, the pic pretty much speaks for itself.

I can't offer you any advice for yourself, but me? I would keep it just because it's $2. Maybe even emergency spendy money. I actually do have a stash of torn notes that I couldn't spend (less than 50% like found on the ground or something). Figure I might as well keep them then toss them in the trash, lol. Maybe some day I'll tape different parts of different notes together to make spendning money, lol.

I went on a rather extensive vacation which covered eleven states. I was able to do a small amount of note searching in most of them. These are the scans of the best finds (hover mouse over scans for a few seconds and click to enlarge to see the most detail).

The first is a 1988 $100 note that I got from a bank in Vermillion, South Dakota. It is not in the best condition but what makes it interesting is that I was handed this note without even asking for any older series notes. While not really a keeper, this is the first 1988 $100 note that I have found. Usually when I find an older $100 note, it is the more common 1990 series so this was a nice surprise.

I went to a bank the following day in South Sioux City, Nebraska and bought 200 singles. In the first strap I found a nicely circulated 1963A G-B note and in the second a crisp and high-grade 1981 F-E note. I had to take a double look at the 1981 as it is so crisp and fresh looking.
    1963A and 1981.jpg

I then literally walked up to a drive up window at a bank in Sioux City, Iowa and asked to exchange a twenty for twenty singles. Was I ever surprised when I found a fairly crisp 1995 B-H Web note! I haven't found a Web note all year and in just 20 singles I find one?!?!?!

A few days later I went to Kalamazoo, Michigan. As I was checking out of my hotel I asked to exchange a five dollar bill for five singles. Out of the five singles one of them was a crisp and high-grade 1988 E-G note. I usually find a $1 1988 note once every 5-6k singles that I search and here I find a really nice one in just five notes, amazing!

After leaving Kalamazoo, I went to Chicago. After seeing the museums for the day I decided to buy some singles to go through before the banks closed. Did it ever pay off. I found my first ever 1969 note and it turned out to be in pretty nice condition.
    1969 G-D.jpg

I was also able to find some straps of Mint CU singles in Chicago. In one of the straps I found a replacement star note. This is the first time I have found a star used as a replacement in a strap of new notes. What happened to the 11th note I will never know but it was pretty cool finding a star. The star is a 2009, btw.

Finally, while in Little Rock, Arkansas, I managed to go through some notes from a bank and found a 1981A L-* note. Even though the note is in fairly poor condition, it is the oldest one dollar star that I have found.

I also went through some notes while I had some spare time in Memphis and Oklahoma City but what I have scanned represents the best of what I found while on this trip. I am quite pleased at what I found considering that I didn't even go through all that many notes to find them.

    WOW NOS!

I'm jealous!! It almost motivates me 10x to make my trip work this month!!! If only I could! I don't think I've ever found any 1969 singles in a strap, but I do have a 1969 $20 snatched from one of my tellers. And I bought a 1969 CU $1 *.

But anyways, those are some AWESOME finds, way to go!:D

for purposes of this thread, is pulled from circulation the same or different than pulled from a strap....????

I'd say same. I couldn't tell you if it actually bothers people or not, but I post any finds I get here, as long as it was being used as regular money at the time I got it and I got it for face. You'll see me post many finds from tellers, probably even more so than actual strap finds pulled out of a strap. I'd say that if you find something interesting from circulation, post it here. Not only does it save this forum from getting over floaded with finds posts, but it also helps so that people that like finds from circulation get to enjoy the finds in one central location, and the people that would rather buy nicer more expensive notes stick to their new acquisitions thread.

No body get's annoyed from seeing a bunch of notes they could care less about.

Scan_Pic0002.jpg I found these notes in circulation over about a 2 month span back in about April thur May.Over that duration i was seeing a very large amount of these B-C block $1's in serial ranges from B18xxxxxxC to B31xxxxxxC very wide spread in my area.I see these were printed in August of 2007 so it appears they sat in a valt for a fair amount of time before being called up to be released. There must have been many millions distrubuted around the northwest/west with this block.I was lucky enough to find these but the elusive solid 2 has appeared to escape me.They look better in person for some reason these scans bring out every wrinkle and handling they have.
