Nice find, Russell. I would guess that "Sal" probably had this note in his wallet/pocket back on New Years Eve 2008, and a friend wrote that little message on there. Or, he may have gotten it in change (perhaps from a bartender that he knew, who wrote that message on there before giving it to him) that same evening. Whatever the story is behind it, it is pretty cool. Finding notes with little messages on them is always kind of neat, and intriguing. As for the gingerbread smell, I have no idea, on that one. lol.
I have a feeling the note was hidden in a kitchen under something like an oven for 30 years before it was found and spent. Maybe the written message is only a coincidence and has nothing to do with the note being from series 1974. Either way, it is an interesting note.
Found this today in a stack from the bank. It is in extremely rough shape, but it is the oldest note I have found in circulation thus far. Definitely a keeper just for that reason!
I have no idea why the picutres are rotated like that. They are the correct position on photobucket but not when linked to this site. How odd.
Found 4 in my drawer, not sure if I'll keep...All about ~60 if grading works similar to coins (I don't collect bills for the most part) L62887536D 1985 $20 ID04644494D 2006 $20 CL33313035A 2001 $100 HB77757574Q 2006 $100 Any recommendations? The last 3 I like for the serial numbers mainly.
Found my second RADAR note! Got it out of the only B of America ATM in Salt Lake City...has a few folds in it, but still a pretty neat find!
I found this in a strap from the bank. Aside from the stamp the note is in Mint CU condition. It would be cool to get the stamp translated to see if the note has possibly been to Vietnam or not. Either way, the message is fairly interesting.
From google translate: "Church Affairs viet-nam phat-thong - least two outside" Not sure if that's accurate, but from what I thought I could read on it, that's what it possibly directly translates to.
Yeah, that's why I haven't run the message through an online translator as they tend to not be too accurate. The best way would be to show the note to a native speaker (or atleast someone who is fluent in the language) to get it translated. I'll see what I can do about getting it properly translated when I have some time, haha.
It's translation is something about a Buddhist temple in Vietnam. There are no exact words that translate into English since it is the name of an organization.
It is NOT a gold cert. Those are yellow/gold. This is a regular FRN, but since it was made before '33, it is redeemable in gold.
My bad, I know nothing about paper money. I still think it's cool that at one time you could redeem that for gold. HOTN
Yeah, that was a bad trade for whomever didn't do that, ha. Something like what? $9k in gold... jeeze.
I had a similar find a few years ago from a Wamu cash dispenser. I found two Mint Gem CU and consecutive 1988A notes from the L-K block. They didn't have a crease, bent corner or any sign of even being put in a wallet. I suspect an original strap may have been found and dispersed in the region but I will never know for sure.
