So I recently got this in a silver lot, and what in the world is that on the chest of lady liberty?! Is this a known variety, or a conveniently placed die chip? (I don't believe its a die chip) aDfcvawe.jpg afaewdsrf.jpg afdae.jpg agerwa.jpg agqaerd4.jpg lksjh.jpg

    I think it's post-mint damage.

Thats a reeded edge otherwise known as a bag mark. Another thought is struck thru die filling, or debris. Finned rims are common on US coinage.

After looking at it closer in hand, I agree with you all. I posted the pics in a hurry before I had to go run errands, so I didn't have much time looking at it.
Thank you everyone for the responses!

And either way, I'm still happy with the coin at a price of $8

Looks like you have a die crack on the reverse from the second T in states through the wing. Where's my glasses.

Brassiere broke. She tried to hide a bit more cash than she should have.

Truth in editing: Added an appropriate "e" to maintain modesty.

A very old hit (PMD) that the pushed up metal has worn down through years of circulation.

Unfortunately that is the camera picking up a pretty bad PMD scratch. Would have been nice if it was a die crack :)
