Hi, I just found some strange minting penny from 1978 (D). I have never seen that kind of minting on a penny. The letters are bold instead of standard reverse of any penny. Have You ever seen something like that?
Welcome to.... Where am I again? Oh! yeah, CoinTalk.. The penny? Nothing out of the ordinary that I can see anyways.
Could be a weak strike due to a thin planchet. Common. Could be a weak strike due to a stamping machine pressure adjustment. Also fairly common. Could be weak design from a clogged die ( struck through grease/debris ). Happens frequently due to normal machine operation. Could be 46 years of circulation wear. Very common. Could be a combination of all of the above. You get to vote for the one you like best. If you don’t like these then, by all means, tell us what you think did it. I see weakness in most of both sides, some boldness in the date and liberty, but nothing beyond a normal coin. …imo…Spark
The obverse indicates die deterioration doubling ( no value) but otherwise the photo size is difficult to see if other present.
It's weakly struck. I would almost said counterfeit except it's not worth the Chinese while to copy it.
