I have a nickel that may have been purposefully altered but I'm not sure. It appears to be very worn but it is extremely smooth and has a place in the center that is raised on both sides, almost like something inside the coin. It is a 74 Jefferson. Anyone ever encountered anything I've this?

Definitely intentionally damaged. I don't know how it was done, but there is no way it could have come from the mint like that. Welcome to the forum, hope you stick around!

Thank you. I was fairly certain it was intentionally done but wanted other opinions. I have a small but growing collection of various coins and am learning more about them every day so I will be in and out of here quite frequently now.
