Hey guys. I bought this piece in a large bunch of CWT's. I think it's a Civil war token but I can't find any reference to it.

No date... 2 1/2 dollar token? Weird. Put on your Sherlock Holmes hat on boys.

Matt ask Bill aka PennyGuy he has some good reference sources for items as such. Very cool find I like it, :)

Looks like a counterfeit of some kind to fool merchants back in the day. But I like counterfeits :)

    Not a CWT--

    Not US

It says Republic of Argentina on the obv.

Plus it calls itself a Libertad on one side and an implied 2 1/2 dollar coin on the other. (Patterned after the 2 1/2 dollar gold piece) There isn't anything like it listed by George and Melvin Fuld in their reference guide. It must be bogus.

It's a real gaming token (spielmark), not a CWT or fake coin.

I believe the Dutchman's item to be a U.S. gaming counter.

The 2 1/2 D. denomination is listed as item 91 in my 1952 reference "Revised List of American Game Counters". I have examples of all 3 denominations, but mine are all made of brass. Each of the three were also made in copper.

The TAMS Journal, Volume 12, Number 6 (Part II) of Dec. 1972 Lists this counter as Arg-1A for the copper variety. It is also known as Kurth 91. This counter has an R-7 rarity rating (10-19 known).
