Strange 1991 Penny

    Hi, Teresa! Welcome to the neighborhood!

    I hope you realize that this thread was started about 8 years ago, and I reminded someone about 2 years ago of its age.

    It would be best if you started your own thread in the "Error Coins" forum and be sure to include clear photos using the "Full Image" option.

    FWIW, I'm guessing that your Zinc cent (which I call "Crappy Zincolns") has simply lost the copper exterior. The copper is only about 8 microns thick and can dissolve easily in some chemicals.

    It sticks to a magnet my 5yr daughter found it in a hidden department in the back of a book someone gave her 20191221_132130.jpg

    Your coin has been plated at some time after it left the mint, they turn up frequently here on the forum.

    If its plated what would it weigh?

    A normal cent weighs 2.5 grams. The weight of the plating could vary depending on thickness but would add very little.
