I find collecting Bronze / Copper coins challenging, specially in BU Red conditions. Back home here in Malaysia with the high humidity, most coins gets oxidized or toned brown if they not properly kept. There are not many copies in my collections, but I'm trying hard hunting, and they are expensive.

    Here's a copy of a 1/2 cent 1932

    SS King George V
    Year : 1932
    Denomination : 1/2 Cent
    Mintage : 5,000,000
    Content : Bronze
Conditions : MS 66 RD - Brilliant Unc Red (Highest Grade with 52 pcs graded similar)

Attached my latest purchase. It's a raw coin yet to be slab. Will have it sent to NGC to have it grade.

    SS Kg George V 1920 50cts.
    Content : .500 Silver
Grade : My personal opinion at MS64. I'm slightly worried of the very light hairline scratches which can effect the gradings. But it does not look like it has been rub before.

Copies of the similar coins in MS65 condition are current auctioned off between USD260 - USD330. MS66 copy sold at USD440

One of the joys of finding a raw coin and having it sent for grading and coming back graded in MS condition by NGC makes it worth the hunt.

Featured is a British Empire Queen Victoria coin

Era : Straits Settlements Q Victoria
    Denomination : 5cts
    Year : 1898
    Composition : Silver .800 fine
    Mintage : 1,200,000
Graded : MS63 (7 pieces currently recorded and certified by NGC)

    Year : 1920

There however are 2 varieties to this coin. One with the cross below the bust (illustrated above) and the other with a dot. The rare variety is the one with the dot of course.

    For your reference below.

Ok, I'm not very knowledgable on British empire regions/coins. Where are and when did the Brits influence that region.

    Nice coins too

Straits Settlements was established under the control of British East India Company in 1826 comprising 3 trade ports, Penang, Malacca, Singapore and forth in 1907, Labuan. The straits around this area today is called Straits of Malacca.

Prior to that period, the Portuguese and Dutch had settled in Malacca trading with India, Sumatra and China. Malacca was a very important port then with the trading of spices, silk, tea and porcelain.

This is an area i collect but not soley focusing on right now, im currently in the west indies, Anglo-German States and India (as always) but my Display picture is a trade dollar which saw some circulation there. I will get round to photographing some of my straits coins over the next few days. I have an Edward VII and George V dollar theyre my favourites from there !

Attached a Half dollar, sadly graded AU Details. It was a raw coin I purchased and with it coming back ungraded by NGC was a disappointment.

What percentage difference would one pay verses a graded coin of the same equivalent grade.

    Denomination : 50 cts
    Year : 1908H
    Composition : Silver .900 fine
    Diameter : 28.6 mm
    Weight : 10.1 g
    Mintage : 2,869,177
Mint : Heaton & Sons Mint, Birmingham, England
    Coin Edge : Milled
Graded : AU Details Surface hairlines

Here is a copy of another 50 cts coin I received back from NGC some time back, at least it managed to get graded. One will find it hard to get the 50 cts of the Kg Edward series in MS / Uncirculated difficult. So for me an AU58 is a consolation. Still in the hunt for the high grade copies.

    Straits Settlements Kg Edward VII
    Denomination : 50 cts
    Year : 1908
    Composition : Silver .900 fine
    Diameter : 28.6 mm
    Weight : 10.1 g
Mintage : 2,869,177 (No records between Heaton and Royal. Both tallied together)
    Mint : Royal Mint
    Coin Edge : Milled
Graded : AU58 (Currently 13 copies registered similar in NGC)
