Hi everyone, we have some gold and silver coins (from an inheritance). If they're individually stored in Air-Tite coin capsules would there still be any concern keeping them together in the same safe deposit box, potentially causing damage and tarnishing of the metal?

Hi there and welcome to the forum. I have some gold and a few rare coins encapsulated in my safe deposit box. I also wrapped them up in a ziplock type bag and set that in a a Tupperware box with a little square of desiccant. But then I live in a very humid part of the country too. Humidity is our biggest enemy when it comes to tarnish.

I agree with Randy! In a sealed in a container with desiccant is the key!

Do you understand "Plastics"? What are Ziplock bags made of? You need to have such coins placed in an inert holder and in a device that controls humidity. Most who have a safe, never place a low heater in it, to keep the contents dry in the container. This needs to be in a large safe. Desiccants are only as good as its life span is.

I agree plus at 1 time I had two large Safety deposit boxes. Do not believe as each bank is different that your box is air tight. An item that is stored could be contaminated by whats in a neighbors box. But yes one must use drying agents, as well containers or coin supplies that are free of harmful chemicals that could change your toning .
