Is there just no interest in it? When proof sets and junk silver sell for melt they fly off the shelf. Sterling however seems to just sit and sit.

    Maybe this...

Certainly would help the thread to be more specific.

Yes, sorry. I was more or less referring to Franklin mint or other type collectable coins. I understand there not being a premium. But for the stackers out there I don't see how they would not be popular at melt prices.

I think it depends upon the Mint. The stuff from the Moonlight Mint usually re-sells for a pretty good premium.

I think the connection to Franklin Mint may have something to do with it. Generally, their products (though interesting) are over-priced novelties not unlike the Liberian coins.

There are nothing wrong with the coins being .925 silver, they just don't attract interest from serious collectors. A B&M would probably buy them for melt.

Unfortunately, the Franklin Mint dug their own grave by overpricing their products and misleading customers into thinking that their "collectibles" would be rare and increase in value. In my opinion, they put themselves on a level (just below) the hucksters of the tv coin shows and the con artists who traipse around the country placing full-page ads for buying gold, silver, coins, Rolex watches and other collectibles for "pennies on the dollar".

It isn't just their coins, though. The same can be said for most of their other "collectibles" like colorized coins, figurines, medallions & pocket knives, just to name a few. Have you ever noticed that they never come right out and tell you how many of an item will be produced?

LIMITED TO ONLY 45 PRODUCTION DAYS! AFTER THAT, THERE WILL BE NO MORE! HURRY AND GET YOURS WHILE THEY LAST!

What they're not telling people is that they are capable of producing thousands per day. The result is that the people who have fallen for their spiel find that they're lucky to be able to unload these "collectibles" for less than half what they paid for them. It's the old adage, "Once bitten, twice shy." which causes people to ignore many of their products on the secondary market.

A B&M would probably buy them for 20% back of melt.
