    And for anyone who thinks lower mintages necessarily imply higher premiums, look at any of the First Spouse gold issues.

    True that. They could have done a "first pets" series dedicated to all the dogs that have occupied the White House, and they'd be worth more now than any of the First Spouse coins, even if the dog mintages were triple the spouse coins.

    High prices did a lot to kill the First Spouse series. The series started off at almost $500 and kept going from there. The bronze medalets at cheap prices were not coins and therefore had a limited audience.
