My Early Copper quest is going REALLY slow.
Not many offered on GC (except Details coins).
So I was looking around for something to keep the numismatics juices going.

A Red Book set of Shield Nickels seems reasonable.
-- Some are only proofs so I can ignore them.
-- Same with an 1867 without rays; proof only.
-- An 1866 repunched date would have to be something like XF.
-- Same with an 1883, 3 over 2; maybe VF on that one.
-- The 1880 is WAY out of hand so it would be ignored (until I hit the lottery ).

Based on my limited past experience, I think the tough part will be getting fully struck coins, even ones in MS.

I think shield nickels are largely overlooked. Good luck!

I deleted my post as I just noticed you already noted "...1867 without rays; proof only". Wishing you a successful, enjoyable, hunt.

Nobody mentioned it (thanks) but I obviously had a typo in my title.
    "Net" should have been "New".
Getting to be 80 has it's difficulties.

The 79 and 81 aren't going to be easy either. Most collectors just get proofs for those three years, much easier and cheaper.
