Started Collecting a new Series British India Rupies

Due to the cost and rarity of nice gothic Florins I decided to take up the gothic design British India rupee's as they are easier to obtain in great or MS condition and much easier on the pocket book. I was amazed how many varieties there are especially the 1840 and 1862 rupee. I was able to pick up the 1862-1891 for 20$ each so worked out well. The 1840's were a little bit more.

$20 per rupee coin 1862+ is a decent price. These coins can be tricky though. Some dates are much harder to find than others, and English language catalogs like Krause do not reflect this in the posted values. Great area for cherrypicking if you take the time to get familiar with the various dates for each denomination.

 

no I collect copper as well and a few gold. I posted most my copper on the british are coming thread pg54

 

I just picked up four more tonight for 30$ shipped each. one has a black line on the flip not the coin.

Excellent coins. It's interesting that these Indian coins near the end of Victoria's reign depict what appears to be a younger Victoria.
