Going out on a limb here but knowing a bank teller might be the answer. People that see thousands of dollars every day see A LOT of star notes. I used to run a truck stop and counted in 12K in cash every day. It was not unusual to see $100 in star notes (lower denominations) in any given day. I had to learn to pick and choose. clembo
Local bank that I visit quite alot , one of the tellers was leaving this branch for a plush office job and had saved these up over some time and asked if I would like to have them, and naturally I said"...........................................................
most star notes are not rare what people don't understand is that all star notes are not rare. they might not make as many as the normal notes, but they made a heck of a lot! anyway i'm saying there is no point keeping all that money in star notes. i would spend the common ones, and keep the rarer ones. thats just my opinion.
I collect banknotes & coins not all of them are realy worth anything but I enjoy collecting them, if you can afford to keep them & collect them then why not keep them?? Honestly collecting is not just about the value attached to a item.
Good point Coinlover and that's why we need good books. There are certain non star notes with much lower numbers printed than any particular star note. One has to know what to look for and not just look at the stars as it were. There is a LOT to be found if one knows what to look for.
pupa put his pics where his mouth was. Kudos pupa for all the star notes! No one can say you made it up!!!
Star notes are only relatively rare in comparison to the total of the series printed. Some series star notes are more relatively rare compared to the total of that series printed. An obvious point is that ALMOST EVERY SINGLE STAR NOTE in the last 15-20 years has been preserved. I would say to 90%. Older series were not preserved in any great quantity, as no one collected star notes to any great degree, except for REALLY REALLY RARE Notes. At least no one was able to pick off the packs of the star notes or pick them out of packs back in the day. It is a new thing really over the last 10-15 years or so, for the armored car companies , or the BEP itself to make available these mint packs of star notes.
Got my book today , yesterday but did not open the package till this morning , will let all of you know what I find in my pile of stars later today.
OK , here is what I have found worth keeping; $5 = 2 2001 CL notes $10 = 1 2001 CG note $20 = 2 1999 BL notes $50 = 3 2004 EK notes and 2 1996 AL notes and 1 2004 EG note $100 = 1 2003 DB and 1 2003 DL notes And the biggest suprise was a $100 note that was just laying around my desk ,1950 C and 1950 B , both in MS THANKS TO ALL WHO MENTIONED FOR ME TO GET "Schwartz and Lindquist 7th ed."
Pupa, Seeing that Darryl and I were so helpful in this quest for knowledge just send us all of the junk notes. Probably worth less than face Good finds dude!
LOL - Very nice finds! I bet it's pretty neat to go through all of those star notes! :thumb: BTW - Just send mine to Clembo, I still owe him for giving me the same advice a month or so ago
