Good thread! I should have read this thread a week ago. When I was a kid I actively collected old US coins, primarily 1800-1870. My collection grew quite large, but as I got older I had to direct my resources elsewhere. I have recently picked up the hobby again, and I have decided to ONLY buy certified coins. Problem is I bought some SGS coins I thought were steals. I guess this is an amateur's mistake However, I appreciate all the comments I have read thus far. Will be VERY helpful in future purchases! Thanks
Welcome to the forum...that is one down, 50,000 to go of those that get taken for a ride with the likes of MS70 and PR70 SGS grades. Pass the word!
Frontein, I wish you the best considering where they came from.I just wish mine would get back,so I can get a good Laugh. Bruce
Hey I have a quick question for the experts. Where is a good place to buy PCGS PR-rated coins online?
Well, I particularly want to buy PR69 or PR70 DCAM coins. By reviewing this site I can tell that most ebay sellers are scammers. Therefore I want to buy PCGS (or NGC) certified coins... Any links will be helpful. Thanks for your help! Cheers!
Sorry More specifically I am looking for quarters and halves, any years are fine. I am interested in the silver mintages, modern and old....
Go on Ebay and take a look....I'm one that doesn't think there is such a thing as PF70 as I think ever coin will have something wrong with it... This grade of coins will make you spend $$$ because many people want them for their Online Sets....PCGS has a online place where you can show off your collection and the one who has the best grade etc-etc gets a "pat on the back". Speedy
I would also check eBay - not all sellers are scammers, far from it. There are a great many highly respected and honest sellers on ebay. True - there are also a lot of scammers. But ask around about a seller before making a purchase. It's not hard to find the honest ones. But if you are dead set against ebay - then go to - Heritrage - they are one of the most respected names in the business. Another would be Teletrade. There are plenty more - but those two alone will keep you in coins for a loooooong time.
Well, after waiting 1.5 weeks to get my coin from abon, it finally came. 2004 PR70DCAM Lincoln. After reading all the negative about SGS I wasn't expecting much from this coin. But it certainly has a DCAM look, and I think it might rate PR. Anyway I am going to try to find a scanner and I will upload a picture. Even if I got lucky and it rates PR69 or PR70 from PCGS, I still won't take my chances with abon or SGS...
I'm 99% sure that it won't get that high with PCGS...if they were that good SGS wouldn't use them...they would send them to PCGS themselves and then sell them... Speedy
OldDan--I didn't say I was 100% sure about it...but after looking at many many many SGS slabs...I see that they NEVER use that good of coin...its almost like they keep them for themselves... As I have said before...I may be wrong...and I hope I am...but I think I'm right on this point. Speedy
i do agree with speedy in that i have heard a lot of negative about sgs on this site and the internet. pretty much they are certifying pocket change. anyhow, I am going to try and find a scanner around here and upload a picture of it today.
I am sorry about the delay. I am working out of town.My wife told me they came back ms63 and ms61.I will give you more details when I get home.I am surprised they came back like they did. Bruce
What were you surprised about ? MS61 and MS63 are a long way from MS70. Those grades are what I would have expected
