Actually, I passed right by the shop that repaired and placed the arcades (pinball machines) on my way home from school. If he was there I would stop and help him. I might catch him once every two or three weeks. Boy, he had more nickels than a bus driver.
Remember, my aunt gave me an 1885 nickel when I was 5 years old. That nickel was listed at $5 in 1948. I thought wow, a nickel worth $5. I was hooked.
I've got one like that too! 1930 also. But I didn't know what that "dot" to the left of her right knee was until I posted it here and was educated that it was a die clash.
Here is an article I wrote last summer on SLQ's. Thought it might be applicable here. also a pic of my Capital set. I really like Standing Liberty Quarters as you can see.
I collect by date & mint mark in holed, preferably in high grade, when available. I want several yet.
One of my favorite designs. I built a nice circulated set about 40 years ago. My local dealer was always buying sets in albums and let me pick out coins at a fair price. Found this one a while back and had to have it.
Here are all my SLQs. I love them because they are just so darn beautiful. When I started collecting in the 50s, they were common in circulation, as were walker halves, buffalo nickels, steel Lincoln cents, etc. My dad hoarded silver, had 6 or 8 big tins full, and some burglar made off with the lot. Bummer.
No, I don't think I ever have. My wife and I have been having medical issues and have been 'out of circulation' ourselves. I will pull it out and post it ASAP.
Post it here: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/post-your-liberty-head-v-nickels.353134/ Okay, hope you and your wife are feeling better.
I only have this one for my type set. Eventually, I'll need the T2 (1917-1924) and T3 (1925-1930), but they're hard to come by toned with nice eye appeal....
Thanks... I think? Unless you were referring to another coin in this thread, in which case, I agree! They’re all great coins. I like them either MS/toned or with a nice circam look. After I finish my current type set, which I intended to be the highest grade/most eye appealing coins I can find, I might just do another and look for circams.
This sort of Type 3 might fit your toned set. Not this one, of course, because I like it too much to share!
