McNeil had a great design after he modified the 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter. His 1917 Type I was very attractive, but then he messed with it for political reasons. He should have found a better way to support the war effort. He really goofed up in the date area. The date was set too high above the surface of the coin. Usually it wore off to quickly, but I have seen strictly Mint State quarters that had a weak date. It was fixed in 1925, but by then it was almost too late.
