Young for the Company</p><p>Rev quite hevily countermarked</p><p>#L9445</p><p><br /></p><p>Bit of the Banks History</p><p><br /></p><p>The Stamford , Spalding, Boston and Lincolnshire Banking Company Limited came into being as a joint stock bank with this title in 1880. It carried on issuing its own notes into the early 20th century when it finally merged with Barclays Bank. The Stamford Spalding, Boston and Lincolnshire Banking Company never went bust. When the merger occurred, the whole note issued was honoured by Barclays. To show this had been done each note was given a V shaped cancellation cut over the signature area.</p><p><br /></p><p>Stamford & Spalding Joint Stock Banking Co – 1831 </p><p>Stamford, Spalding & Boston Banking Co – 1836 </p><p>Became “Ltd” in 1874 </p><p>Branches = 38 </p><p>Taken over by Barclays – 1911 </p><p><br /></p><p>Please let me know what you all think :thumb:[/QUOTE]</p><p><br /></p>
