1796 Dime, Small Eagle Reverse, NGC AU Details (Damaged)
Only the second Details coin in my collection.
Now there are only two coins missing in my type set which I'll never get unless I hit the lottery ... BIG.

I don't know if the lines at 2 o'clock and 6 o'clock on the reverse are damage or coin adjustment marks.
But the gouge through the left wing is definitely damage.

Beautiful coin. Even with the details. Draped bust is my all-time favorite US coin design. Unfortunately I only have a severely worn 1800 large cent that you can only barely make out the details if you angle the coin just the right way.

That's a great looking coin, especially for your type set. It's so nice the reverse gouge needs to be looked for. :)

Even with the gouge it's a very nice coin. I think i'd forgive that damage to have a 1796 dime with that amount of detail.

Really great coin. I would happily ignore the damage if she were in my collection. There’s so much else going for the coin!

    They are indeed adjustment marks

The marks at 2 and 6 k are adjustment marks and not an issue. The wide mark through the eagle’s wing is the reason for the details grade.

That gouge is pretty well broken up amid the feathers and leaves; I think you got a lot of nice detail probably at a big discount from a "problem free" example; good going!

    Thanks for all the comments.
And it's nice to feel confident that they are adjustment marks.
