Saw an announcement in Coin World that the only Long Beach show this year will be the one this month. Used to be 3 times per year. The show is sponsored by Collectors Universe, owner of PCGS. I’ve enjoyed attending them, in part because of the location. PCGS used to hold excellent coin grading classes there too. I think COVID and management changes damaged the show. Last time I attended it wasn’t well run. The show had been moved to a ballroom on the other side of the convention center, and they hadn’t bothered to put signs in the old location telling folks where to go. Must have been 100 folks milling around wondering if the show existed. New location wasn’t mentioned in brochures or ads either. The show itself had fewer dealers than in previous years. Sad to see it go downhill. Cal
Quote "The decision comes as the Expo continues to navigate the evolving landscape of events in a post-COVID world. While attendance rebounded strongly, costs associated with hosting have risen significantly. The Long Beach Expo team has worked to absorb these increases without passing them on to exhibitors or attendees." Closed quote Long Beach Expo only in February Home - Long Beach Expo
Just a notation. "It's still very much with us". People have warned me to keep wearing the masks. Indoors mostly of course. Can't take any chances as far as going to any shows happening this year.. Just my opinion.
The single biggest expense for the show has probably been renting space at the Convention Center. Could be that cost has gone up a lot. If a cheaper venue can be found, then maybe more shows can be held per year. S. Calif. can certainly support more than one big show per year. But, so can N. Calif., but the number here is zero. Cal
The West Coast is underrepresented with big shows. The only regular ones were the Long Beach shows. ANA occasionally has one of their shows there. With 3 big metro areas (LA, Bay Area, Seattle) and high average income, you'd think there would be more. Seems like Texas should have at least one big show per year too. Cal
