There were 17 members and 2 guests present including Sherry Briggs, William Harkins, Richard Hand, Robert Fregeau, Jay Bailey, Richard Lowenstam, Kenneth Spatola, Stanley Sobiech, Martin Samuels, Richard Ziegler, Christopher Ziegler, Eric Goossens, David Pepe, Harvey Fenton, Linda Fenton, Arthur Fitts and Prue Fitts. Our guests were Stephen Reardon and Robert Messier.</p><p><br /></p><p>The Secretary’s report was accepted as sent.</p><p>There was no Treasurer’s report. The Treasurer would like to remind our members that the 2011 Dues are now due Regular Member Dues are $10.00. Please make your checks out to “Boston Numismatic Society” or pay cash to Harvey Fenton at the next BNS meeting. Checks can be mailed to Harvey Fenton, 11 Fairview Terrace West Newton, MA, 02465.</p><p><br /></p><p>Membership: The society received applications for membership from Mr. Robert Messier and Mr. Stephen Reardon. With this being their first meeting no action was taken at this time. The application for membership to the society by Mr. Robert Alan Fregeau was approved, following a motion and a vote by the members in attendance.</p><p>A special election will be held in March to fill the vacancy of President Dyroff. Acting President Briggs has appointed a Nomination Committee to solicit candidates for the position of President and Vice President. If you would like to be put on the ballot for either position please email Robert Fritsch at <a href="mailto:bobfritsch@earthlink.net">bobfritsch@earthlink.net</a>.</p><p> </p><p>The ANA elections were discussed, the society received correspondence from two candidates wishing to be endorsed by the society and its members. Those seeking our support were Arthur Fitts who is a candidate for the office of Vice President, and Scott Rottinghaus who is a candidate for Governor. There was a motion to endorse Arthur Fitts for Vice President followed by a second and a vote with all in favor. A motion was made to endorse Scott Rottinghaus for Governor followed by a second and a vote with all in favor.</p><p>The Fitts 2011 ANA Summer Seminar Scholarship was discussed. This year’s scholarship is for an adult New England Collector. The Scholarship will honor the memory of Jan Dyroff and is valued at up to $1,000 towards tuition. Applications should be mailed to: ANA Scholarship, c/o Boston Numismatic Society, P.O. Box 281, Newtonville, MA 02460. For complete rules see attachment.</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p>The catering for the combined meeting of the BNS and CCNE was discussed. A motion was made to accept the proposal to cater the event and split the cost with the CCNE the motion was followed by a second and a vote in favor to have the event catered. Members of the BNS and CCNE will be welcomed to a catered meal prior to the meeting. The event will take place on Monday April 11th, 2011 and will feature three well known speakers including Anne Bentley, David M. Sundman and Q. David Bowers. The catered portion of the evening will be for members only and will take place between 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. The event begins at 7:15 in the church hall of the Trinity Congregational Church, 730 Main St. Waltham, Massachusetts. </p><p>Mr. Hand announced that the Brockton Public Library will be celebrating National Coin Week on April 16th, 2011. The event is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Main Library 304 Main Street, Brockton, MA for more information call 508-580-7890 Ext.301. Mr. Hand will be coordinating the event with several guest speakers including Dana Zaiser and Richard Balbaton who will be giving talks on the currency used during the Civil War. </p><p>Show and Tell produced the following items for display: Mr. Fenton displayed a ½ oz. silver Relic Medal made from silver recovered from the shipwreck of the Atocha; Mr. Sobiech showed a Polish Obligation Note; Mr. Hand showed the Gettysburg quarter and a 1964-D Peace Dollar, This was a modern overstrike using a Denver Mint surplus press and a genuine peace dollar. The new dies were engraved by Daniel Carr; Mr. Pepe showed medals from Plymouth MA celebrating the landing of the Pilgrims; Mr. Goossens displayed several items including a token issued by the Hambleton Terminal Corp., Rochester, NY., a medal issued by the Rochester Numismatic Association to celebrate the First Central New York Numismatic Convention in Syracuse, NY on October 23rd, 1984 and a token issued by Arch Kirkwood of Buffalo, NY; Mr. Ziegler showed a Peace dollar with a clipped planchet; Ms. Briggs showed a denarius of Augustus, obverse showing Augustus, reverse showing “Shield of Strength” with laurel trees .</p><p><br /></p><p>The feature of the evening was a program taken from the 2010 World’s Fair of Money, Numismatic Theatre program titled “Henry Morgan, Brutal Pirate & Honored Statesman” by Tom Sebring .</p><p><br /></p><p>The next meeting will be held at 7:30 P.M. on March 8th, 2011 at the Trinity Church, 730 Main Street, Waltham, MA.
