I need to dig it out again and take a close look with my 9x or 10x loupe. After that if I get a good weather day, I'll drop it into some acetone outside and see what happens. Plus I can take it to the Baltimore Whitman show and get a pro's opinion ... and maybe buy a replacement. It's time to start my wantlist for that show. If NGC would finish up on an 8-coin lot I gave them, that would REALLY help finalize my wantlist. Dropped them off at the Philly show in late Sept, but apparently turnaround time is a lot longer than advertised. I'll have to give them a call.
I'm pretty sure it's not a finger print as well. Has anyone ever seen the blue Whitman folders tone coins? The glue that they used to hold on the paper backing to the cardboard has been known to tone coins in an interesting "fingerprint looking" pattern. Might this be what we have going on here? Thoughts???
Hmmmmmm, strong possibility, particularly if a bit of moisture got involved. I believe that was the type of album I first used. BTW, NGC is now at 42 business days turnaround for Economy class submissions. Apparently they've got the graders working weekends now. If(?) they can get my coins done by the Baltimore show I can pick them up there. Should save on shipping.
