I am away from my books at the moment and have spotted these two coins at a local auction. Can anyone spare the time to give me more info - particularly how much they should go for at auction! Thanks (reposted from Coin Chat)

The french looks like a quarter ecu? What's the weight? A Half Ecu is 14.74g

If it's a half, in that condition, $40 or so.

Sorry for seeing this so late. The Sicilian coin is a 1735 Coronation coin. When you see "coronation" on the reverse of a Sicilian coin of that era you know it is a 1735. That's the only year they used the word coronation. And it's the coronation of King Charles III, later to become the king of the mighty Spanish Empire.

That coin was also minted at the Palermo mint, called "Zecca di Palermo". Sicily back then had a different monetary system than their neighbors in Naples, even though they were part of the same kingdom. Naples had their own mint called "Zecca di Napoli"
