Thanks for posting! Those World Coin Week cards would be considered private issue -- I hadn't seen those before. Interesting stuff!
I think I'll add one tonight just for grins. This card is B234, the Bureau's 1999 card for employees who participated in their savings bond program. This is one would be my nomination for ugliest souvenir card issued by the BEP. Truth be told, I don't even have a copy in my collection because I couldn't force myself to buy one at the time. But I'm open to arguments in favor, if you can make one!
Private issue souvenir cards issued to commemorate National Coin Week 1983; from personal collection: == reverse of above == == cancelled each day at Memphis 1983 ==
If you skip back to page 29 on this thread you'll discover an interesting finding regarding the central engraving on this card. It's the only card I know that was issued by the BEP which has an imprint of the American Bank Note Co. Here's a close-up of the engraving itself on a proof. You'll find the same imprint on the card, although somewhat obscured.
I know and always wondered about it but just supposed the BEP obtained the rights or at least permission from ABNCo. ??
Another set of private issue souvenir cards. This set includes the original proclamation for World Coin Week 1984. All from my personal collection.
Nope, they're the government remember? And back in the 1870s when the government said we'd like our printing plates now, if you please, the bank note companies said Yes Sir!
Souvenir card for MidWinter ANA in Tucson 1983 Just an interesting note with a very interesting vignette(and a radar too): and it was printed by W.J.Morgan & Co Litho Cleveland, Ohio not ABNC
That's the one souvenir card that ABN issued which shows a note not produced by them. It illustrates the common practice, represented by your Sandusky scrip, of small printing houses copying the work of the large bank note firms. You can easily see (and feel) the difference between the fine line ABN engraving and the less detailed lithographs.
