WOW that's US$14-15,000.....although its for an MS65. But my MS62 is not too bad And what about the single shaft Pond??!!
See previous answer ... expand the message "Mintage not indicated but included in the mintage of the "Double Shaft" Recent auction price for AU55 according to Hern, R90,000"
That's quite strange as the Single Shaft version is much more rare and there are very few pieces in MS state. AU53 and AU58 coins sold at Heritage for $8,000+ several years ago and single shaft coins seldom come on the market. I still think I took advantage of some sluggish bidding on some coins and got mine at around 25-30% less than the recent purchase prices recorded by the auction houses. Cannot complain
You are correct with that statement ... Auction prices according to Hern for MS61 = R350,000 and MS62 = R270,000. With that it clearly shows that it depends on the autions ... when and where The DS half pound mintage of 10,150 with the SS included in that mintage. Auction prices AU55 = R185,000 and AU50 = R154,000
WOOOOOW.....Manfred you just made my day and reinforced my strategy of buying at auctions where people don't know much about coins from other countries Based on your figures, my trio should fetch about R450,000 on a good day at the correct auction. That's a very cool $35,000+.......if you were in Dubai, I would most certainly buy you many drinks my friend, for that information
To give you an example of a "modern SA coin" and not in the same category as the ZAR coins. Last year i bought a Proof 1982 Nickel 1 Rand for less than $100 on auction. "Dealers" bid on all the other coins and were prepared to pay crazy prices. With a mintage of only 15 i didn't complain ....
