In 1964 I lived in California and wrote to many government mints asking to buy coins. Most did not sell directly to customers and referred me to banks or local coin dealers. The South Africa Mint sent sent me a price list: South Africa Mint pricelist for 1964 (one Rand was worth US $1.40 then) I bought a few coins from the South Africa Mint in Pretoria but I could not afford the more expensive items and it was illegal to have gold coins shipped to the United States due to the US Treasury gold regulations. The 1964 price list did list a 1951 nine-coin proof set which was lined out. But I wanted one of the proof sets, not necessarily the 1951 set. Recently I was able to obtain a 1952 proof set with the last coins of King George VI.
