She'd better be. That's no cheap date there.

The mint actually gave these away free if you bought the 1995 4 piece gold set. The set was $995 that year.

I believe these have sold for twice that in the past. Crazy.

Yesterday I honestly thought there must be something special about the year, or MM.

Now I don't know what to think. I had no idea an ASE could go for five figures, much less high five figures.

This thread is seriously bending my brain, and it's my own f*ing thread!

Seriously, what gives? Yeah yeah supply and demand, but I don't understand the demand I guess.

Chacun à son goût, as they say.

Melt value in 95 was around $800
The mint marks things up by a much heftier percentage these days.

Yeah that was a bargain compared to these days.

When I was a dealer in the mid 1990s, dealers were selling these 1995 gold eagle and American Silver Eagle sets for $1,200. I was tempted because the 1995 Silver Eagle was known to be good. I also liked the full set raw, not in a slab. Since then, the prices have gone way up and slowly come back down. Some day they might be even cheaper. With modern coins, it’s often out of sight, out of mind, lower prices. For me, the thrill is gone, but then again, i’m not a high payer for anything that has been made in my lifetime.

At one time just the raw Silver Eagle shot up to about 8 or 10K. That didn't last long. Today you can buy the set for about 8K.
I chose to just keep the set in the original mint packaging.
