Someone copying my coin to sell on Ebay????

Further perspective - under current US law every creator of a "work", which includes photos, has an automatic copyright without the registration or filing requirements that are necessary for standing to bring a suit for infringement damages.

 

This would SIGNIFICANTLY angrify me BIG TIME if someone re-purposed one of my photos and posted it on ebay. I spent a lot of effort learning how to take my photos, have spent quite a bit of money on the equipment, and spend a lot of my time staging and preparing each photo. Not to mention the small fortune I have paid to acquire my unique and rare Early American specimens.

They are MY COINS and they are MY PHOTOS. Deb has her coins and her photos - they belong to her. Everyone else on here the same applies too.

 

Oh no rlm. I said hang him. He broke the law. No need for a voice of reason.

It's a scam and he should have to pay. He should be kicked of ebay for the rest of his life. We need to get everyone on CT to report this guy. He is going to make at least a dollar of this coin after fees and postage and that's just not right. I'm going to report the guy to the IRS to make sure he pays taxes on that dollar. I'm also going to track down the state the seller is from and make sure he pays the sales tax on it.

Folks here say he is nothing but a con artist. Hang him. I don't care if he said he would send more images of the coin he listed as VG from the start.

Well I'll be darn'd. The guy has sold only one item in the past year and it was not a coin but he did buy 25 items. Yes he did use an image that was not his and that is wrong.

Did Ebay reply to your report?

 

Just a confirmation email that they will investigate the listing. The listing is still there and now he has a bid. So all I can say is the winning bidder will not get the coin pictured, and that's just wrong period.

 

I was just a bit po'ed when I was on the other side. I bought a coin and then found he had swiped the picture from someone else. The coin I received was not even similar to the coin pictured. Oh! He was also a relative newby with only a couple feedbacks. I got my refund and all kinds of apologies and promises not to do it again. Therefore, I decided not to leave a negative - until he did it again. I found the people he copied his pictures from and they reported him AND now he got his negative from the first time he did it to me. Funny thing happened on the way to the forum. He has never done it again in several years. From what I could tell, he never got NARU'ed from eBay.

I have been watching this tread all day. It’s very interesting but a little distressing.

The reaction to what I consider a “minor” crime on a two dollar coin has been very harsh.

I was surprised that the auction was reported to ebay. I was even more surprised that no one contacted the person and asked him to remove the stolen photo. Are we even sure he knows he is breaking copyright law.

We have tried, found guilt and even attempted to punish him without giving him any chance to correct his crime.

Have we become a society that automatically assumes the worst in everyone?

 

Question that comes to my mind-Is V.D. Brenners design on the Lincoln Cent copyrighted by the US Mint or a 3rd party? If so the OP's original image and claim to copyright is on shaky grounds and perhaps they should just hang themself in deference to all that's holy and nuanced about copyright law. Let's get really farcical with this molehill!

 

I have every right to be unhappy about this:

#1. Used My Picture
#2. Lied and said yes to my question if the coin pictured is the one the winning bidder will get.
#3. Using OTHER people's pictures from other websites
#4. Needs to know or at least read ebay selling policy BEFORE selling an item.
#5. It's illegal

Enough said.

Good night, I also wonder what a seller who had inadvertently (if it was inadvertent out of iggorance) broke the rule could do to restore the op to her/his equanamity? Maybe free shipping on any purchase? Maybe a promise to buy a scanner or a digital camera? Maybe an apology?

 

I think a BU roll of small 70's is a fair compensation. FedEx'ed overnight!

I have had people "borrow" my photos and even my text word for word on eBay and use in their auctions.

When I contacted one all they could say was "I am very busy..."

All you can do is report them to eBay and hope for the best.

 

I think Deb should bid on the item, win it, then use the opportunity to post feedback about the coin photo!!!

 

No, folks here are correct. The seller is going to make at least a dollar on this and that's just wrong. He should be hung. It's not his image. Actually we should hang him twice. He is trying to sell a 70-S in VG that is worth maybe a few cents for $1.99. Now that's a scam.

This seller is obviously a moron....right in line with the fool that bid $1.99 + shipping for a coin worth bullion value at best. LOLOLOLOL
