    Extreme Die Deterioration.
    It has the appearance of an over used Die.
    Worn Die Strike.

    Deterioration doubling to the letters.
    Mushiness.
    Striations in the field.

    Wow, that's the most worn die strike I think I've ever seen. Why would the mint continue using that die when it is obviously beyond service. NAV by the way.

    That is a keeper as a nice "teaching piece" to show what extreme die wear looks like.
    1983 nickels are often known for this and can be found much worse than this one.
