I actually bought two of them from the Franklin Mint for $59 each plus shipping. They come in their own little black felt lined box in an airtite. Very nice coins, 2006 AGEs. Today these sell for $85 to $95 each.

While this whole thread is great, it is this post that just shows you how HSN can rip off people, day in and day out, like they do. Got to love it.

My current favorite being repeated both in person and flooding email inboxes daily is the...
"Did you know they took 'In God We Trust' off the new coins?"
First of all, most saying this have no idea which coin they are talking about, have never seen a new presidential dollar coin, and have no idea what they are talking about, just repeating some other fools statement. I just love the illiterate public.

A friend of mine runs a jewelry store - phoned me for advice on a gold coin.
Him: "What's an average price for an old gold coin?"
Me: "All depends on the year, condition, mint mark, etc?
Him: "You don't have to be specific, just ballpark?
Me: "Oh, Ok, hang on ... lemme go get my ''ballpark coin pricing book" ~ while I do that, tell me, how much is a big ole diamond ring worth?
Him: "Well, that all depends on size, quality, clarity, color, etc"
Me: "You don't have to be specific, just ballpark ... don't you have a ballpark diamond ring book?
Him: "Smart alec" ... and hung up.

Site please, those bags are really great for my uses (Automotive).

Anyway, I remember this one story I saw on another site where a cashier cried that she took a "weird note." From the description, I figured out that she took a $100 Gold Certificate!!

    Probably already shredded by now.

I just got the new Whitman catalog from the FUN show, and in the back they have lincoln cents in a bottle for $3.50 or so. The coins just happen to be 1973 S cents as well

A friend of mine called me and said he had received (2) 1 oz gold coins for Christmas from his parents. His parents are loaded so I wasn't to surprised. All he could tell me over the phone was that the coin had a lady on it and a building on the reverse and they were dated 2002. Without seeing the coins I told him gold was $600/oz (at that time) which excited him to sell the coins, which turned out to be gold platted medals from somewhere like Liberia.

May well be referring to this rumor:

    http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/lincolncent.asp

Which came from an ignorance that the new Lincoln cents will only be changing the reverse, not the obverse. They noticed that "In God We Trust" was not on the designs shown... but neglected to notice that Lincoln cents never had "In God We Trust" on the back, only on the front.

Either that or they're referring to yet another rumor (that may have a kernel of truth to it, as many rumors do) that they're considering taking the lettering of the edge that has the phrase "In God We Trust" on it (as well as "E Pluribus Unun," the date, and mintmark) due to the complications of placing lettered edges on the coin. If that ever happens though it would just mean moving those to the front or back of the coin (more likely the back), not eliminating them entirely.

This is a little off topic but a friend of mine has a father that owned a liquor store for 40 years and would keep any notes that looked different etc...silver certificates and National Bank notes. My friend had several of the National Bank Notes issued on behalf of local banks and I suggested he talk to a dealer in the area. The dealer stated that they were all common and worth a little over face. I called the dealer and pointed out how off he was and later sold the notes on Ebay for around $100 each for a $20 note. As far as the dealer I haven't talked to him since, but at the local coin shows he just gives me a dirty stair when I pass by. I realize he is in business to make money, but offering $25 for a $20 note thats worth $100 is just sad.

And if you find them dated before 1997, they're worth at least 2 cents for the copper content alone. ;)

Obviously you haven't been following the descent of the US dollar!

A US cent is worth ~.97 of a Canadian cent.

An older man that belongs to our local coin club brought in some (fairly new) notes for us to see last week at our meeting. He had a Dansco currency binder full of newer notes, mostly $1s and $2 dollar notes from the mid 90s to present that hes been getting from the bank, he told me "I'm hanging on to these because they'll be worth big money someday". There were no star notes or unique serial numbers, just average notes. I think its funny when someone thinks the $2 dollar note will be very valuable someday.

Well if they ever stop printing millions of them, maybe they will lol... ($2 bills are NOT rare, it's just rare to see them in circulation anymore since they get sent back to the bank very quickly; as soon as their spend merchants deposit them to get rid of them as soon as they can.)

Having CU $2 bills may be worth it if nobody's saving any, but supply exceeds collector demand for any of them that aren't pre-1976 atm, so I soubt they'd be worth much more than face value within the lifetime of anyone here.

I save them the rare times I see them for the novelty of it, but I have no delusions they'll become especially valuable anytime soon.

Remnids me, I wonder if I can get some from banks lol... the Fed's still printing these, they have to be going somewhere.

the local 7-11 keeps a two dollar bill in the register so if they get robbed they give that to the robber. and then if he spends it they got him lol like he is the only one with a 2 dollar bill

While at the Antiques Action, a lady comes upto me who runs a Flea Market and asks me where she can get the George Washingon $1 coins, she told me that they were worth BIG MONEY. Not to diappoint, I produced a few rolls and satified her wishes. I showed her the one without the inscription and told her that was what the hub-bub was about and she replied, no they are gold and gold is going up!!!!

Another Bank Teller showed my wife Half dollars in a sack that some old lady brought in and that they were all silver! My wife told her that she would pay a dollar a piece and the teller eyes opened up and said five hundred dollars for Two Hundred Fifty Half Dollars, A DEAL. A sack of Walkers and Bens was acquired!!

How much is it worth, most folks think the older a coin, the more valuable the coin. A two Dollar Bill is rare, Silver dollars made in the late 1800's are super valuable and new "gold" dollars are made with gold.

To us in the know, it is amusing.

You'd be amazed how many people... even quite a few novice coin collectors... seem to think age = value. It is true to a degree that older coins tend to be rarer, in higher grades anyway, but it's not the age itself of course that has anything to do with the value, at least not directly.

Again though $2 bills have never been rare lol... though I forgive people who think this, since they just are so rarely seen in circulation. I always wonder why the same people who say we should get rid of the penny don't ever mention what a waste it is for the goverment to keep printing millions of $2 bills that are almost never used. Same with the half dollar (though I'd love to see an effort to make this circulate again).

Your wife paid $2 each for those halves, not $1, by my math... still an excellent deal though lol...

Gold is a good investment atm... if buying coins hoping for the gold value to go up though make sure they actually contain gold lol... I don't get why anyone thinks gold colored = gold, I certaintly never hear people think all our silver colored coins contain silver. I'd have to think those who think that are in the extreme minority...
