I was walking around. I left at 10:30 to get back. I hung out with Larry and Ben for a bit. They were near the entrance. I got a couple toned Walkers, Toned Kennedys and a couple other random toned coins. I really didnt want to go, but I promised I would. The lighting was awful in there.
The only person around I see as a "godlike figure" is Doug and he claims never to have been a dealer. Would you like to be a "godlike figure" to me?
I'm not saying there is a way a collector should act. But in any sales situation the emphasis is on the vender not the customer. Knowing what annoyes a dealer is useful. However I would say the vast importance of proper behavior lies with the salesman, not the customer.
Godlike is a relative term. To some, this pewter plated cow is godlike... http://www.ebay.com/itm/COW-TIE-TACK-GOLD-PLATED-PEWTER-USA-MADE-FREE-US-SHIPPING-/360839826697
Which one am I what? Are you asking if I am a Doug or a Cow? If you're going to be witty, please make it hurt. I appreciate a good witty jab, this one I just don't quite understand, sorry.
Nope. Possible, maybe even probable. I dont need them, like I said, I don't act like a pig. I do agree with most of them. I am worried about some others here... God-like is a bit strong. Do I respect people who have proven to me over many years they are honest, dependable, and knowledgeable? Yup. Do I know dealers who fit the bill? Yup. Sounds like you don't, I feel bad for you. In Maine, not only are the men men, but some are the woman are too. I think we know how to be Men. Having terrible working relationships with dealers does not make you a man, sorry.
I did not know that about Maine. I thought that kind of stuff was only in Las Vegas or south beach. If you're into those kind of women, that is fine. Just keep it to yourself. This is a coin forum.
We are learning a lot about geekpryde. I think I see where his uncertainty, and lack of etiquette comes from.
I have no idea how you misinterpreted what I said, but what I meant was that even our proud Maine woman are more men than the "men" from many of the other states. And it was specifically replying to someone calling me a sheep. Where is @Mainebill when I need him? I think we can safely ignore each other going forward, we won't ever see eye to eye.
Since I finished my education and have lived in vegas I can say that I have had two friends that found out the "hard" way that the person with them had more in common then they thought.
And, here I thought we were talking about coin dealers. Back on topic: Sure there are MANY coin dealers who are slobs, ignorant, obnoxious, etc. But, then again, so are many of their customers. So, they may get along fine
If I give you my BEST price and you counter, I put the item back in the case. If you still want it the price is now higher than my "best price". Your counter to my best price is an insult in my eyes.
Perhaps you don't understand bargaining. If you had the item priced already, wasn't that your best price?
