Close, 65 on the eagle and 66+ on the double. I am very surprised the eagle did not make it to 65+ or 66. I've been pretty good on my upgrades and for sure thought this one would make it. No, I don't crack out coins, I always send them in for true view, and figure I'd do a regrade/secure while I'm at it. Some good guesses from the picture! If you really want to see why the eagle most likely didn't make it to a + or 66 you can probably see why http://images.pcgs.com/trueview/24455691 and pull up one of the larger images. I am going to say the biggest reason is the hit on the wings on the reverse (almost dead center on the coin).
Man....I was a little too late on this one. I guessed 66 on both. Those are some very nice pieces! I love the Saint!
I don't know gold coins and won't pretend to. If I could afford them, I would buy a Indian 10$ and if I could afford it, it would look like the one you posted. I would grade it a 66 with my limited knowledge and not searching cert numbers. Nice coins as always, Traz. :thumb: EDIT: Guess I should read the whole post.
If that eagle is only a 65, I'd like to see a 66! Great coins! Please continue to share your collection. Question: Have you considered sending some of your coins to CAC? High-end gold can really benefit from a sticker.
I rarely do resubmissions, either. In this case with the $$$ involved might make sense, don't know whether NGC may be worth a shot. The several week wait and 50-50 chance I will be disappointed are reasons not to resubmit. Really, I guessed 65 on it but upon further inspection, I see what looks like a nice scratch in the fields of the reverse right under the "M" in 'E PLURIBUS UNUM' and a rim ding on the reverse at 3:10 As for the obverse, The stars look to be weakly struck along with the bottom most feather on the headband. To be honest, I would've guessed 67 on it because it has absolutely nice eye appeal.
My grade - sweet! I don't have any gold in my collection, but the last local show I went to had some gold cac 65's sitting next to some non-cac 66's (same dates) - the difference in color was astonishing. The CAC'ed coins looked so much better than the non-cac coins - oh and this was just with the naked eye. Just my opinion.
