A little while ago I posted a bunch of silverware(technically plated not pure silver)so here are some more interesting objects. Some say silverplate is worthless,is it?i don't plan on selling anything.
Now the plate at the very bottom couldn't find any markers besides above. It says the words SPAIN and I think ENGLAND?.
Silverplate itself has no value but the item it’s covering does. Check your coasters and candlesticks carefully as I have them but mine are .925 or sterling silver. As an antique dealer, the plated candlestick holders are about $9.50 a pair. If they are sterling the price starts around $35.00 a pair.
The coasters say silverplate and candle sticks are indeed sterling. That bell shaped object i believe is sterling also,it passed the ring test but i couldn't find a mark, what do you think about the plate?.
"Cement reinforced sterling" refers to weighted sterling. Essentially, the item is made of cement covered in a layer of silver. This is not solid silver but it is far from worthless and you still have a significant amount of silver in that item. In fact, with a pair of pliers you can scrap the item by ripping the silver from the cement - there are Youtube videos on how to do this. Researching your item more wouldn't hurt however. Some of these silver items are worth more than their silver melt value.
IMO, you need to keep/cherish them for the antiques they are…you have some very beautiful items. I especially like the coffee/tea pot and the platter…Spark
If it has a clear glass backing, it is known as a Silver Plated Trivet. Hopefully this will lead you to discover more about them.
That's it in a nut shell. I believe the reason most people say silver plated items aren't worth much, as silver goes, is due to it easily being worn away after several cleanings.
Thanks for the photo. It does look like a trivet.keep them all but they must be polished or protected from the air. If not, even silverplate will tarnish.
Yes, I bought some cheap restaurant west that was quad-tripled silverplated and you could see the copper in places from wearing away.
Now for this I could only find the word(Silver)could (Sterling)possibly have been cleaned off or is it just silverplate.
Both are probably plated and are serving pieces. Probably plated too. Another serving piece. All in nice shape. As for the piece marked sterling 997, it’s sterling or .925. 997 is the pattern number for that piece so not solid silver.
I figured those were silver-plated now if you think about it.Sterling is .925 silver right?now if you think about it that's a little more percentage then the average U.S junk silver.
