Sosius, a leading general of Mark Antony, was governor of Syria in 39 BC. This coin potraits him in his capacity as quaestor (symbolized on the coinage with a Q and the symbols of the office). At Actium in 31 BC, Sosius commanded the left wing of Antony's naval forces. He fought on, eventually surrendered, and was spared by Octavian.
