Found these three in a local antique shop. Paid $9 total for them. I am not much of a foreign coin collector, but they have some decent silver content, so $9 seemed like a fair price.

Considering there is more than 9 dollars of silver there, I'd say you did pretty well. Great coins too. Some of my favorite French designs.

I agree you got a really good deal. However, I LOVE foreign coinage, I have only 4 Canadian AV coins, all the rest are US/ World/ Ancients:happy: Here is one of my France coins....

From the time of Joan of Arc. French coin cataloged as being struck under Henry VI of England, which has always struck me as oxymoronic. Either it is French or it is English, can't have it both ways, especially without a portrait of the monarch on the coin. fra1422a.JPG fra1422b.JPG

Much more affordable and an equally stunning coin, --Louis Napoleon III. He was a sleazebag of unimaginable proportions. Part of serving in his administration was the acceptance that your wife would be required to sleep with Napoleon III, and would likely contract VD from him.

Beautifull coin! I have that one too:happy:

Its really a French coin, under English rule. That part of France was occupied by the English before Joan of Arc started winning back territories for Charles VII.

It's kind of like claiming an (1659) Maryland Lord Baltimore Shilling was struck under Charles II of England because he happened to be on the thrown at the time and the colony was technically under English rule.

Its listed in Friedberg under France. But, in my world, it would be listed under England, since the territory Henry VI ruled over was English, and would be still that had the French not have won it back in later wars.

In my world it would also be listed as English, making it worth twice what it is as a French coin.
