Saltysam-1, in looking over their website, Skyline Coin and Currency does sell the 2012 Proof Presidential Set for less, $12.95 plus shipping, but you are limited to ONE per customer. And these DO NOT include the original box and COA's. You get what you pay for!

I'm going by an ad they ran in Numismatic News, an issue dated 12/18/2012. Like all printed material, as a subscriber, it arrives to me before the news stand date. Their ad states they are discounted an additional $2.05 if you purchase them in a quantity of 10 or more. Total: $10.90 plus shipping. Perhaps you have to wait until 12/18/2012 for the additional savings? Buy the coins, not the packaging. To those that do, this is a great value and opportunity.

SaltySam-1, I don't mean to be argumentive, or picky, but I've been told by many investment grade coin enthusiasts that having the original mint box and COA is important, especially if you want to re-sell the set someday to others, esp dealers. Sure, if you're gonna break the proof coins out of the packaging and sell them separately, then yes, buy the coins, not the packaging. Some advice easily found on the net:

"If the coin (or set of coins) you're considering buying isn't listed in the Greysheet, you might want to reconsider ~ and for the Greysheet values to be valid for your coin(s), your coin(s) must be in the original box or packaging, with the original papers that it came with when it was originally sold by the U.S. Mint. Without the original box and papers in nice condition, the coin(s) will bring less than Greysheet prices. (Original boxes and papers are for things like proof sets, mint sets, commemorative coins and sets, US Eagle bullion coins, etc.)"

I think the word investment is a little strong for annual mint sets. It's more a question of braking even or getting what you can for them. The exception would be for the first few years of issue, or IF the silver market is up from when you purchased them. And it would have to be way up to show a profit, maybe double on some sets. Since this thread is about Presidential Dollars, the silver scenario doesn't even come into play. If you look at Greysheet prices, your not going to get your initial expense out of most of them either. This applies to annual sets along with the Presidential Dollar set. So the minimal impact of not getting paperwork isn't a strong issue vs not getting them at all. The plastic cases they are in, have the United States Mint Seal on them which is imbedded inside the plastic. Most people would not doubt their being authentic. What less you might get from a dealer in this condition, still may not cost you anything if you average at the $12.95 or $10.90 price. It's still a great value and opportunity.

Here is an example of what you would have paid the Mint vs Skyline. $23.90 w/shipping vs $17.95 w/shipping. A difference of 25% which is almost the same as your eBay example of 28 1/2%. In real money this is 99 cents for one set vs your eBay price. Not enough to even worry about. Would you really let an opportunity to pick up a new mint set go by for such a insignificant amount and disrupt your collection? That would be penny wise and pound foolish. It's still a great value and opportunity to keep your Presidential Dollars current.
