So who was the best president reagan or grant and who deserves the recognition!

I know this is a currency question but I wanted to say the following about our coins. I'm currently working on an article/paper I will make a thread of here discussing this subject.

Nationalism started with the fall of Constantinople. At this point in time, Europeans could no longer travel east to get to China, they had to go west. This ultimately put the countries in a 5 century long battle for property in the New World and in Europe. Nationalism was symbolized in practically everything until WWII. Most countries currency had something symbolic on it and until after WWII (with the exception of monarchy's and ancient times; when even this currency had symbolics on it) that all US coins changed over to presidential figures.
1909-The cent goes to Lincoln. This occured near no major things in history.
1939-Nickel goes to Jefferson. This occured right after WWI (relatively) and just before WWII. During WWII if you believe (as I do) that it started in 1914 when WWI did.
1946-Dime goes to Roosevelt which occurs immediately following WWII
1932- Quarter goes to Washington. Occurs after WWI.
1948-Franklin Half comes around. While he is not a president, we lost all form of nationalism at this point.

So as you can see, most coins lost their "symbolism" during the WWI/WWII time frame. There is a reason behind this. IMO this reason is that we wanted to promote peace and individualism through basic everyday things.

This is a very, very, VERY shortened version and the actual paper/article is still in progress. Just some thoughts I have had.
Now time to put the brain to bed.
